project moodboard ☆*: .。.

When deciding the mood for our film, we wanted to go with a light and feminine feel. We thought giving our protagonist the appeal of a 'wolf in sheep's clothing' would make her an unexpected candidate to kill her husband. Her clothing being sweet and inviting, her personality kind and docile, and the scenery that surrounds her being comfortable. Throughout, the plot evolves with the same retro mise en scene. To viewers, this may cause a similar reaction to psychological horror.

Other than mise en scene, Abby was insistent on keeping Mary Janes relevant. As 'Mary Janes' is the name we're planning on using for the movie opening, we believed it'd be fitting for her tradwife cover. Another consistent prop is her trusty butcher's knife she hides in her kitchen drawer. This knife lies over the photos of her past victims. Originally, I seeked inspiration from the early episodes of WandaVision, but the 50's retro scenery will be difficult to achieve. Hopefully we'll find an alternative. Whether it be cottagecore over retro.

project idea!

We have decided to go with the murderous tradwife idea!!

I believe I didn't say this before, but we quickly brewed up the idea of a 'Mr & Mrs. Smith' scenario, but we obviously scrapped that. With that, we are planning on meeting up at a cafe to plot our storyboard and discuss filming times and locations. Since I'll be gone all winter break in Hawaii (WOO SO EXCITED!!!!) my group has decided on filming some while I'm gone so we aren't behind. Once I'm back, we'll finish up filming and go through editing. I am very eager to see how this works out since the film idea is so interesting to me. I place my trust in my group to be productive while I'm gone, and I'm so excited to see what I'll come back to!

title sequence research

Dexter: Season 6 | Rotten Tomatoes

Dexter

As it is my favorite show to binge at the moment, I HAD to include Dexter. In this series, we follow a Miami forensics blood analyst who has a dark secret. He's a serial killer but only goes after the most dangerous and wicked. I always loved the title sequence of this show due to its subtle hints at his obsession with blood. From the blood orange, hot sauce, or even the floss that resembles how he ties down his victims. I wanted to incorporate the subtleties into our final project, as our protagonist also holds a dark secret.

Season 1 | Why Women Kill Wiki | Fandom

Why Women Kill

Though a lot of inspiration comes from this series, I haven't really watched it myself. It has been on my watchlist for a while. The beautiful and delicate wallpaper with hidden weapons within was a treat and it's definitely something I'd like to chase in our piece.

brainstorming!!

The big idea in our minds is... tradwife gone wild.

Crazy enough, this idea came from Nara Smith, a famous influencer known for her outrageous meals. Every meal, from scratch to the very last ingredient. Though her situation appears to be happy at home, I thought it'd be interesting to expand on a situation like hers. A young mother and wife, seeking revenge on her abusive and distant husband and father of her children. From this kill, she makes it her duty to avenge other abusive husbands for her friends.

I thought a book club would be the congregation where these women would plot their husband's demise. A big influence on this was the miniseries, "Why Women Kill" (shown in the image below).  We'd see the twisted truths of this tradwife killer slowly throughout. With the opening of a kitchen drawer, the viewer can spot the photos of her past victims conveniently lying below her chosen murder weapon, a butcher's knife.

Roll Call

At first impression, I suspected the camera movement was messy and would result in a 'messy' feel. However, the handheld feel really added the destructive and chaotic energy of the characters. I really enjoyed the title sequence, though I would have presented the title differently rather than in a box. The establishing shot walking into the police headquarters has a nice touch, a great opening. The actors gave insight to the plot of the movie. They acted very well. One thing I would change, though, would be the credit presentation. The font and transitions to me didn't suit the feel of the movie.

New Everything

To me, this movie opening didn't feel interesting. It seemed 'low quality' due to the camera, seemingly an iPhone. Nothing appealed aesthetically or plot wise. It was rather cliché. I believe this plot could've been more intriguing if they included a backstory to the character or a change of events early on.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dreamland

The introduction was very aesthetic to me. The filters used added lots to the mise en scene, as I immediately knew the feel the movie was going to convey. However, the opening sequence was too repetitive for my own liking. The change of scenery to Walgreens was nice due to the black screen before. The filters were kept mostly consistent, adjusting to the scenery, which I liked. The plot seemed interesting and ties into the title. Overall, it was an interesting opening.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Lover

Plot-wise, I really enjoyed this movie opener. However, I would have planned the aesthetic differently. Mise en scene was very simple and I believe a pink filter would have added the 'lovesick' feeling she was trying to achieve. Other than that, it's a beautiful project.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dare to Thrill

This would by far be my favorite opening in this assignment. The plot seems interesting, the mise en scene, scenery, costume design, characters, and props were all rebellious and compelling. At the end once they opened the trunk, the reactions were perfect and the angles beforehand were too. I can't think of any way to improve this piece.
