mise en scene in Sweeny Todd

Here, mise-en-scene is created with the actor's costumes. The dark essence of their clothes and demeanors give insight of their true intentions. Especially in a bright scenery, the contrast makes them pop. Their similar stripe pattern in their clothing adds to Ms. Lovetts attraction to Sweeny. Their pale complexion and intricate accessories, more so on Ms. Lovett, also resemble their very contrasting personalities. Their hair, though similar in style, also contrast each other with its color. So does Ms. Lovetts glasses and red accessories throughout her outfit.
This set, with its ripped wallpaper and seemingly old presence, gives the audience the idea of poverty during their time period. Lack of furniture gives insight on their minimalist needs and economic situation. Sweeny holding his blade prop to the sky shows his willingness to avenge the men who have done him wrong. Ms. Lovett represents her obedience in her posture, the light shining on her to prove her innocence as of current. He towers over her in height, adding depth to the set. The lightening coming from the big window also gives us the time of day, early morning. With such a big window, it still barely provides the characters with light.
The movement of side actors walking by proves Sweeny's solitude. Though he looks ridiculous, he still goes unnoticed due to the crowds, bleak scenery, and dark costumes that surrounds him. He holds his blade prop here as well, supporting his continuity. The blade continues to be used throughout the film, causing the inevitable death of many, including foes. His white streak of hair is especially prominent here. This costume design in Sweeny perfectly displays the importance of creating a unique characteristic in a main character. He becomes easily recognizable and gives us insight of the personality he has. We can also see the stresses of his life through his eyebags, pale complexion, and dark pupils.
They take it back to the beach, now at what seems dawn. Mountains or hills occupy the background scenery, seeming empty. The three sit alone, the males seeming uninterested in whatever Lovett has to say. The costumes remain bleak and dark, expect Ms. Lovett's. She wears white throughout her outfit now, rather than the black we were introduced with. The three sit in a slope, from tallest to shortest. Most likely displaying their relevance in the plot. Props of picnic baskets provide context of this scene. The mess that is thrown beside it also depicts how they enjoyed it. Ms. Lovett is the only actor acting ecstatic of her company. This represents the characters dynamics amongst each other.
Pirelli stands cockily, laced with gold on his bright blue suit coat. The character design already tells what his demeanor and personality is like. His slick back curls and puffed up undershirt represents his flamboyancy and self-centered ways. Through his face alone, the audience can imagine his ethnicity, which would be Italian. The costume designers probably enunciated his makeup to make his iconic look. His thick eyebrows, thick mustaches, and thick, silky hair.

WHIPLASH moodboard°~~

I chose these photos off of Pinterest, which I saved onto a board and then uploaded to my photo gallery. I uploaded these photos to Canva, using a templete. These photos were chosen since they really convey the pain and singularity of Neiman, while also portraying his passion for the drums. The color palate also resembles the movie’s, with the yellow/orange lighting at night and blue natural lighting during the day.

sound story ☆*: .。.

The process of my sound project was done on iMovie. My partner sent me clips of foley from Youtube, which I then submitted into iMovie and extracted the sound. After tweaking the sounds to our desire, I screen recorded the playthrough. Then, I submitted that into a separate project, where I added music from Ratatouille to add to the 'French' atmosphere. I screen recorded that again, painted on a black screen, and uploaded the final project to Youtube. The link to the project is below! :)

Obviously, we needed foley. My partner and I agreed on simple things such as washing our hands or opening ovens. I took my videos and sent it to her so she can created the foley video linked below! I also had to go back and insert the foley into our original draft of the project, having to adjust the background music and audio samples. She sent me the finished project of our foley, which I then downloaded and uploaded to Youtube.

Below is our complete script! Originally we had our assigned foley with our names beside it, but we deleted our names to keep it neat. I made the original script, but as the project went on my partner adjusted it to the finished plot. When our presentation came around, my partner handed our teacher the script and she graded off of that. Which I found very convient!
